Dundalk Credit Union Annual Schools Quiz
10th February 2010

Dundalk Credit Union will hold its Annual Primary Schools Quiz in the Lisdoo on Wednesday 10th February 2010 at 7PM. Following on from the success of last year, the quiz this year will involve 28 teams from Primary Schools located within the Dundalk Urban Area. Each team will consist of four pupils meaning over 100 pupils will take part this year.

There are awards for first, second and third place with cash prizes, medals and a perpetual plague up for grabs.

40th Anniversary Members Draw Held
26th March 2009

Last Thursday night €40,000 worth of prizes was shared by 40 winners to celebrate 40 years of Dundalk Credit Union. A great night of fun and entertainment, hosted by RTE celebrity Kathryn Thomas (who told an enthralled audience of her own long association with Credit Unions), saw every one of the 40 Finalists in the Credit Union’s 40th Anniversary Members Draw take home a fabulous prize which included TV’s, iPods, cameras, camcorders, iPhones, gift vouchers and cash prizes.

Eric Ramsey from Carrick Road was the winner of the top prize of €10,000, with the complete home cinema entertainment system won by Brendan Harrison from Ard Easmuinn and Chloe Matthews from Drumgowna, Louth, took home the family trip to Disney World in Florida with €1,000 spending money on top.

Cheers erupted from the packed audience when Eric revealed the top cash prize and he was so shocked and delighted he couldn’t even tell Kathryn Thomas what he’d spend it on!

With huge pressure from both her younger brothers Kevin and John, Chloe Matthews brought home her desired prize of a dream holiday to Disney World in Florida. When brought up on stage by Kathryn Thomas, Kevin and John told the audience that they’d been dreaming about this holiday since their sister’s name was drawn as one of the fi nalists, and they could’nt wait to go into school to tell their classmates about this fabulous family trip.

Brendan Harrison was over the moon afterwards with his home cinema system and said it had been a fantastic gesture by the Credit Union to have the 40th anniversary draw.

Kathryn Thomas said she was delighted to lend her support to Dundalk Credit Union and to be back in Dundalk itself adding that in lieu of the wonderful sights and scenery that the locality has to offer maybe it was time for her “No Frontiers” team to do a programme here!

Primary School's Quiz
4th March 2009

The Annual Dundalk Credit Union Primary School's Quiz was held in the Lisdoo on Wednesday 4th March. A record twenty five teams were entered from the local Dundalk primary schools comprising of 4 students on each team.

There were 10 rounds of questions, which then had to be followed by a tie breaker after two teams tied for first place. When the first tie-break round failed to separate the teams a second tie breaker was held and finally the Christian Brothers Primary School emerged victorious with St. Malachy's Girls School coming second and Scoil Mhuire na nGael placing third.

40th Celebration Dinner
22nd February 2009

As part of a programme of events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Dundalk Credit Union, a dinner was held in the Ballymascanlon Hotel last Sunday night.

The dinner was attended by current and former directors and staff of the credit union and a representation of the general membership, along with guests from neighbouring credit unions and the Credit Union Development Association (CUDA). Also in attendance were the Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern, Councellor Seamus Keelan, the Registrar of Credit Unions Brendan Logue and CEO of the Credit Union Development Association Kevin Johnston.

The evening proved to be a huge success with many guests sharing stories and reminisces from the past four decades.

Dundalk Credit Union A.G.M. hears of Strong Growth in Loans
The Chairman of Dundalk Credit Union, Jim Kelly, told a packed and very successful A.G.M. that despite “restrictions on credit in the banking sector, the growing membership of Dundalk Credit Union can be reassured that its business as usual in relation to the comprehensive saving and loan facilities available from Dundalk Credit Union”. The Chairman added that “with Dundalk Credit Union’s loan interest rate at 6.99% we are seeing a growth in demand for a variety of loan purposes – particularly from members seeking to clear expensive loans previously obtained from other financial institutions”.

The Credit Union’s Treasurer Mr. Tom D’Arcy presented a detailed overview to the meeting of the very healthy financial affairs of the Credit Union and noted that “approaching €200m has been loaned out to members by Dundalk Credit Union over the past 5 years showing the contribution the Credit Union makes to the financial well-being of its members and their families and also the contribution it makes to the local economy”.

Credit Union Savings Now Guaranteed By The State
A dividend of 3.5% was declared on savings - a rate which Tom D’Arcy said put Dundalk in amongst the top performing Credit Unions in Ireland. The meeting also heard that the savings of individual members were now guaranteed by the State up to €100,000 per member.

Other reports presented to the meeting included the Credit Committee Report from Ida Lewis, the Credit Control Committee Report from Sean Mc Donald while a comprehensive Supervisory Committee report was delivered by John McDermott.

The A.G.M. re-elected the following Directors of Dundalk Credit Union:

Pat Donaghy, Brian Gonnelly, Martin Hegarty, Georgina Henry, Martin Kerins and Grainne Murphy. Patrick Williams was re-elected to the Supervisory Committee and Michael Bellew F.C.C.A of Farrelly Dawe White was elected as Auditor.

Numerous tributes and a presentation was also made to Ms Pat Muckian who retired during the year after 14 years as Manager of Dundalk Credit Union.

40th Anniversary Celebrations
The Manager, Billy Doyle, outlined a comprehensive programme of events scheduled for early 2009 to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Credit Union including:

In overall, an organisation that many people in Dundalk regard as the “Peoples Bank” is going from Strength to Strength.

Credit Union Savings now Included in Government Guarantee

The Board of Directors of Dundalk Credit Union has strongly welcomed the Government's action announced on Saturday 20th September 2008 that the savings of all Credit Union members, together with bank and building society depositors, are now guaranteed by the State up to €100,000 per member.
