A New Chapter for Dundalk’s Historic Foresters’ Hall

A significant chapter in Dundalk’s heritage has been renewed with the reopening of Foresters’ Hall, following an extensive restoration undertaken by Dundalk Credit Union. For generations, Foresters’ Hall played an important role in the social and cultural life of Dundalk. The historic building has been carefully restored to serve both its original purpose and the needs of the community today.
The completion of the restoration was marked at a special ceremony on 13 November 2025. The hall was officially reopened by Robert Troy TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance. He was joined by Erin McGreehan TD and councillors Seán Kelly and Robbie Nash.
The event was hosted by the Board of Directors and CEO Billy Doyle of Dundalk Credit Union and brought together invited guests from across Counties Louth and Monaghan, along with representatives from several local organisations, including Louth GAA and Dundalk Institute of Technology.
As part of the restoration project, a year-long research initiative led by local historian Helen Doherty explored the rich story of the building and its place in Dundalk’s past. The research has been presented through a dedicated exhibition and accompanying history booklet, featuring photographs, artefacts, and stories that reflect the hall’s long-standing connection with the community.
Looking ahead, the restored hall will be used by Dundalk Credit Union for meetings, training, and events, while also being available to local groups for performances, exhibitions, fundraisers, and educational activities. The reopening ensures that Foresters’ Hall will continue to play an active role in community life for years to come.
Members can also explore the history of Foresters’ Hall through our online flipbook, featuring photographs, stories, and research that highlight the building’s unique place in Dundalk’s community life.
